Antique Chinese porcelain crackle glaze (Ge / Guan) double gourd vase, 18th/19th century, Qing
Elegant antique Chinese porcelain vase with a crackled guanyao glaze, in the form of an auspicious double gourd with a fine cafe ole rim and neatly finished foot rim. A superb example from 18th/19th century.
Chinese guanyao ceramics have a long history, with some of the oldest examples dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). These ceramics were highly prized for their beauty and durability, and were often used for decorative purposes in the imperial court and in wealthy households. Later in the 19th to 19th century Qing craftsmen reproduced the guan glaze in reverence of earlier examples.
